Tarea 5. Boceto del proyecto Maths and Finance
Para esta tarea voy a utilizar el boceto de proyecto Maths and Finance, que envié hace aproximadamente un año para su aprobación. Está en inglés porque es el idioma de trabajo que utilizamos con nuestros centros asociados:
About the project
The main objective is students to become familiar with the
mathematical tools that are used to make decisions in the field of
economics and finance.
According to Morgens Niss, formerly
responsible for the PISA results: "Democracy is not a big deal if
citizens are illiterate in mathematics. Politics is not about words, but
about numbers and, in the end, it can only be judged by numbers. The
citizen who does not understand public budgets will have to believe what
politicians wanted to tell them”. This is why we will carry out
activities in which students will have to use mathematical concepts to
decide on investment strategies following the EURO STOXX index, so these students can become competent European citizens.
Aims
Pupils will:
A1. Improve their performance in Maths and their
ability to apply the acquired knowledge to solve problems and improve
their understanding of the world around them.
A2. Develop their enjoyment of math
A3. Increase the use of ICT and OER to produce and disseminate results to a broader level.
Teachers will:
B1. Create a resource bank to work on mathematical competence in relation to non- STEM skills
B2. Integrate ICT tools and Open Educational Resources in their teaching plans and methods.
B3. Share examples of good teaching practices to improve the level of the key skills.
Work process
Participants must learn the basic operation of the stock
exchange and what the Euro Stoxx 50 index is and its national
equivalents, such as the IBEX-35).
In international teams (one student from each school) they manage an “investment fund” with a certain initial capital.
For
four weeks, they must invest in the stock exchange in shares of the
companies that take part the Euro Stoxx 50 index, buying and selling
according to the criteria agreed by each group.
Teachers will supervise this work and approve the purchase and sale orders. They must also certify the market price.
After
these four weeks, each international team will show in their page in
Twinspace its final report including the “profit and loss” balance.
Teachers and students will use the Twinspace tools to communicate among themselves.
Expected results
Expected concrete results:
Each international team of
students (each “investment fund”) will show in their page in Twinspace
its final report including the “profit and loss” balance and
conclusions.
Expected strategic results:
Inclusion of non-formal learning to complement to the regulated learning.
Implementation of work by means of projects, involving different academic skills.
Working
on eTwinning and publishing the work on Twinspace is a key part of the
Plan of dissemination of the Erasmus+ project Maths Everywhere.
